Words from the Heart for Thursday March 19th, 2020
Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:31-32 (NLT)
One of the most frequently asked questions by people who want to visit Canada is how long they can legally remain in Canada without having to apply for permanent residency. Most visitors can stay in Canada for up to 6 months. If your passport was stamped when you entered Canada, you need to leave by the date stamped in your passport. If you received a visitor record, you need to leave Canada by the expiry date listed on the visitor record. And while here, it is illegal for a visitor to work or study.
Even before Jesus’ disciples recognized Him as the Messiah and experienced Him as their Saviour, they adored Him as their rabbi. Even the religious leaders recognized Him as different than any other rabbi because He taught with such authority. And here we are 2000 years later, still amazed by His teaching. The thing about the Christian life, however, is not that we are amazed by Christ’s teaching, or appreciating His ability as a teacher. The call of Jesus is to put what He taught into practice. To obey what He taught. Jesus told His disciples in John 8:31-32: “Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” The mark of a true disciple is that they follow the teacher. That was the case with any rabbi in Jesus’ day. It is certainly true when it comes to what Jesus taught. His teaching brings life, and peace and joy. Are you His follower? How are you putting into practice what He has taught you today?
These have been words from the heart.
