Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness…”
Genesis 1:26 (NIV)
In His Image
A couple of years ago, people in other countries were asked what the image of Canada was to those in their country. Eugene Lee, in South Korea, said, “In Korea, Canada is known for its pristine nature, and, perhaps, cold weather. If Koreans plan a short-term trip to Canada, they would have in mind Jasper, Banff, the Rockies, Niagara Falls, Thousand Islands, etc. Canada’s multiculturalism and welfare state are regarded highly as well. Canada’s image is very positive.
The Bible is very clear that God created all things. All that we see in our world, great and small, gargantuan and minute, were first created in the mind of God and then spoken into being. All living things have much in common, including human beings. God planned it to be so. But unlike those who believe there is no intelligent designer behind all things, the Bible teaches that human beings are a unique part of God’s creation. Genesis 1:26 says: “Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness…” God breathed life into our first parents. Nothing else in all of His creation is aware of their own mortality and ponders things of eternity. Nothing else in all of His creation ponders the deep things of life. Only men and women are created in God’s image. Sin has marred that image. Which is ultimately why God put into the place the redemption plan, so that when we are redeemed, we are restored to take our rightful place in this world as the image bearer of God. If you have committed your life to Jesus Christ and have experienced His redeeming and transforming power, you are an image bearer of God.
These have been words from the heart.
