Words from the Heart for Thursday June 13th, 2019
You are my strength, I watch for you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely. God will go before me and will let me gloat over those who slander me.
Psalm 59:9-10 (NIV)
You are My Strength
The strongest tides in the world are right here in Canada. Every day, more than 100 billion tons of seawater flows in and out of the Bay of Fundy, which stretches between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia—that’s more than all of the world’s freshwater rivers combined! The tide is so powerful it exposes ancient fossils in the rock faces along the shore, and causes water to rise up in some spots to more than 50 feet. You don’t want to get caught in these tides.
God knows the truth about your life. If you are going through a challenging time, if others are saying untrue things about you, you can count on God knowing the truth. He will bring about justice. King David had times in his life when others accused him, threatened him and opposed him. Some of the worst of this came from members of his own family. But even when life was the darkest, David was able to write, in Psalm 59:9-10: “You are my strength, I watch for you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely. God will go before me and will let me gloat over those who slander me.” In the midst of the darkest hour, David kept his eyes focused on the Living God. He kept the long view, beyond his present circumstances, with the unwavering faith that God was going to bring him through. And in the meantime, God was his fortress, his hiding place. When things are tough for you, God can be your strength, your fortress, too. He is going before you, so trust Him. And He will lead you through this and out the other side.
These have been words from the heart.
