Words from the Heart for Thursday July 5th, 2018
Your unfailing love will last forever. Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens.
Psalm 89:2 (NLT)
Your Unfailing Love
The love of our God lasts forever. He will not make a sudden decision to abandon us. The fear of being abandoned brings great harm to a child or even to an adult. But, our God not only loves us, He is also faithful to continue to love us. His is an enduring love. Other people may have failed or disappointed you, but the Lord will never abandon or fail you.
While you may have never heard of Sir Gordon Drummond, but he was the first Canadian-born officer to command both military and civilian government. In 1812, leading the British forces in Niagara, he forced the Americans to retreat across the Niagara River from Fort George (now Niagara-on-the-Lake) ensuring that the Niagara peninsula returned to Canadian control. 1814 wasn’t a very successful year for the British troops, but Drummond did lead them to victory at Lundy’s Lane, the bloodiest battle ever fought on Canadian soil.
Next time you gaze up into the night sky, ponder this thought – what you are seeing is the same as those who stared up at the night sky a generation ago, or two or three. The ancients pretty much saw what we see this evening in our sky. And if the new heaven and new earth haven’t been formed by then, our descendants will see the same thing a thousand years from now. As staggering as that is, the Psalmist uses the consistency of the night sky to describe the faithfulness of God’s love. In Psalm 89:2 he writes, “Your unfailing love will last forever. Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens.” One thing David could count on was God’s unfailing love. And here, some 3000 years later, we can still count on that. We have Jesus as a guarantor of that love. How wonderful it is to know that Jesus loves us just as He loved our parents and grandparents and our children and grandchildren. So no matter what is happening in their lives and yours, trust in His unfailing love.
