Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.
Hebrews 13:17 (NIV)
Obeying Leaders
The first woman elected to a provincial legislature in Canada was Louise McKinney in the 1917 Alberta general election, while the first woman elected to the House of Commons of Canada was Agnes Macphail, in the 1921 Canadian federal election. Although female representation in politics has increased since then, and political parties have identified increasing the number of female candidates as an organizational and political goal, women are still significantly underrepresented in politics compared to the general population. Canada has had one woman Prime Minister, Kim Campbell.

It has never easy being a follower of Jesus. There is a reason why the Kingdom of God is referred to as the “upside down kingdom.” It turns the principles of the kingdoms of the world on their heads. The result is that followers of Jesus are to be different in our attitude and actions, in every area of our lives. Because of this, we are often misunderstood by those who are not yet followers of Jesus. Christians have always faced opposition and persecution because of our love for Jesus. How are we to respond? The author of Hebrews is very clear. Hebrews 13:17 says, “Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.” In a day when social media gives everyone a platform to publically express an opinion, take note of what the Bible is saying here. We may not agree with our leaders’ decisions, but we are still called to submit to their authority.
These have been words from the heart.
