He grants peace within your borders; he fills you with the finest of wheat.

Psalm 147:14 (NRSV)

Peace Within Borders

There is great unrest in some parts of our world. Everything is disrupted by conflict and war. Leaders and helpless victims long for peace. This verse is a wonderful promise from our God. He will not only bring peace within the borders of nations but, He will also restore them to fruitfulness. Ask the Lord what nation you may hear about on the news today that could benefit from the power of this promise as you use it to pray. He will fulfill His word.

The Alaskan boundary dispute was a territorial dispute between the United States and the United Kingdom, which then controlled Canada’s foreign relations. It was resolved by arbitration in 1903. The dispute had been going on between the Russian and British Empire since 1821, and was inherited by the United States as a consequence of the Alaska Purchase in 1867. The final resolution favored the American position, and Canada did not get an all-Canada outlet from the Yukon gold fields to the sea.

The world longs for peace. On any given day there are dozens of conflicts around the world. As sad as conflict between nations is, conflict within the borders of a nation, between people groups or factions within a country, is particularly heartbreaking. So it isn’t surprising that God gives a promise in Psalm 147:14, “He grants peace within your borders; he fills you with the finest of wheat.” Peace and a good economy always go together. The wealthiest nations have enjoyed years of peace—and the result is a stable economy. As it is so within nations, it is also true spiritually. One of the blessings of having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the inner peace that He provides. And the peace provides the stability we need to build our spiritual lives no matter what the world is trying to do to steal our peace. Out of that inner peace comes a crop of spiritual fruit. If you are longing for inner peace, turn in faith to Jesus Christ. He will transform your heart and life and fill you with His peace. Out of that peace will come rich spiritual blessings.
