Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Think About Such Things
A number of Canadians living outside Canada were asked what those around them think of Canada. Nora Dunn who was living in Ecuador at the time said, “I’ve lived around the world, and for the most part, Canadians are always viewed as friendly and jovial. Funny – when I was living in Australia, whenever I told somebody I’m from Canada, they would say, “Oh wow! I’ve always wanted to visit Canada. I want to go to Montreal, Vancouver and Alaska!”
Happy Canada Day! What a blessing to live in this country where we enjoy freedoms that can only be dreamed about by millions, perhaps billions, in this world. At the same time, however, it is far from perfect. We see so much that is in contrast with the principles of the Kingdom of God. Those of us who are followers of Jesus are citizens of God’s Kingdom. We look forward to the coming of that Kingdom in its fullness – that is a future hope. But right now, we are commanded to live as citizens of that eternal Kingdom. Paul the apostle puts the command this way: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” In a world where the profane is celebrated and emulated, where the news reports how reprobate human beings and our world can be, God calls His children to live higher than all of that. We need to pray daily that the Lord will lift our thoughts above all this world pulls us towards, and keep them on all that is excellent, praiseworthy, lovely and admirable.
