Words from the Heart for Thursday July 15th, 2021
Listen, my son, and be wise, and set your heart on the right path:
Proverbs 23:19 (NIV)
The Right Path
An online article on the best hiking paths in Canada says “Cape Breton is a tiny island packed with some of the most beautiful views on the east coast. And if you’re looking for a hiking challenge, why not try the Highlands Challenge? All you have to do is complete the 26 trails in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. While it may sound like a lot, it’s a feat you can accomplish in just a few days.”
If you were setting off on a trip and were warned that the traffic would be terrible, the road unsafe and the route poorly marked, but instead you hardly saw another car, the road was in perfect condition and the route was clearly marked, you should assume you are on the wrong road. The Bible compares the Christian life to a path that we are to travel on. It promises that the road is narrow, that it will demand obedience and taking up a cross daily. If instead we find ourselves being carried along by the world, never having to depend on the Lord, we have to ask ourselves if we are really on the right path. Proverbs 23:19 says “Listen, my son, and be wise, and set your heart on the right path:” We who have committed our lives to Jesus are called to regularly take spiritual inventory. Are we walking in the way of the Lord? Do we seek His word for decisions? Are we prepared to do everything Jesus asks of His followers? We are called to be wise in how we live our lives, not being carried along by the thinking of the world, but standing strong for the King of kings.
These have been words from the heart.
