Words from the Heart for Thursday January 14th, 2021
Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.
Proverbs 19:27 (NIV)
While radio is considered an old medium, Canadians still listen. According to the Canadian Radio-Television Commission – the CRTC – the average weekly number of hours that Canadians 18+ spent listening to traditional radio decreased slightly from 15.0 to 14.6 from 2017 to 2018. The average weekly number of hours spent listening to streamed audio services grew from 7.2 to 8.1 during the same period, a 12% increase. Combined, this is the highest level of listening during the 2014-2018 period. We have not stopped listening!
I have learned over the years that God supplies others in my life to help me become the man that He wants me to be. None of us are meant to live our lives siloed from the rest of the world. It became very clear to me early on what my weaknesses are – and as a man called to leadership I am grateful to the wise counsel I have received from others who are much wiser and experienced than I. King Solomon worked hard at counseling younger men. The book of Proverbs is filled with the counsel that he gave others – including us. In Proverbs 19:27 Solomon wrote this: “Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.” It is true that youth think they know everything. As Mark Twain once wrote “education is lost on the young.” The older I get the more I know that I don’t know very much. God gave us the Bible as His instructions for time and eternity. We are wise when we study God’s Word, and heed its instruction. Don’t stop listening to its instruction. As you keep listening to the Lord through His word, you will live in victory.
These have been words from the heart.
