Words from the Heart for Thursday January 10th, 2019
But you have said, ‘I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.’
Genesis 32:12 (NIV)
Standing on the Promises
The Oath of Citizenship, or Citizenship Oath, is a statement recited and signed by those who apply to become citizens of Canada. Administered at a ceremony presided over by a designated official, the oath is a promise or declaration of fealty to the Canadian monarch and a promise to abide by Canada’s laws and uphold the duties of a Canadian citizen; upon signing the oath, citizenship is granted to the applicant. The vow’s roots lie in the oath of allegiance taken in the United Kingdom.
Life can often be challenging. Problems crop up even within the best families. We sometimes have to have tough conversations with those we love the most. Such was the case with Jacob when he was preparing to meet with his estranged brother Esau. He had duped Esau earlier in their lives, and Jacob wasn’t sure how Esau would receive his brother. Jacob was nervous and ought to have been. In Genesis 32:12, Jacob is in prayer and he reminds the Lord of the promise the Lord had made to his grandfather Abraham and father Isaac: “But you have said, ‘I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.” When the tough times came, Jacob stood on the sure promises of God. So must we. There will be many times when things happen in our lives that we will just not understand. Sometimes we will find ourselves in seemingly impossible situations. At that point we must stand on the promises of God. When we do, we will find Him to be the rock and we will move forward with the assurance that He is in control.
These have been words from the heart.
