Your Hand Will Guide Me
Mary Malcolmson organized the first Canadian Girl Guides Company to be officially registered in St. Catharines, Ontario; their registration is dated 1910-01-11. Other Guide Companies were registered later in 1910 in Toronto, Moose Jaw and Winnipeg. By 1912, the movement had spread to all parts of Canada, and had become so popular that on 24 July 1912 Agnes Baden-Powell named Lady Mary Pellatt ”Chief Commissioner of the Dominion of Canada Girl Guides”. Many Guide events were held at Lady Pellatt’s home, Casa Loma, in Toronto.
As I’ve traveled the globe for ministry, I’ve discovered something. No matter where I go, God is there. King David didn’t have the ability to travel like we do today, but he too knew that this was true. In Psalm 139:10 he says that no matter where he travels – whether to the heavens, or the depths, or the far side of the sea, “even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” When the Bible speaks about God’s right hand, it speaks of His authority. And God has the authority to do all things. That’s a great promise and a great comfort. King David recognized his need for God’s support and God’s guidance. Centuries later Abraham Lincoln would declare “I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go.” If great leaders recognized their need for God’s authority and guidance in their lives, we certainly should. It is quite likely that something will happen today in your life that will drive you to trust God’s authority and leadership in your life. Do not worry. No matter when and where that happens, God is there.
