The Lord your God did to the Jordan what he had done to the Red Sea when he dried it up before us until we had crossed over. He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful and so that you might always fear the Lord your God.

Joshua 4:23-24 (NIV)

All the Peoples of the Earth

While Canadians trace their ancestry from just about every country on earth, the number of First Nations Canadians is increasing each year. Approximately 1,525,565 Canadians, or 4.43% of the total population, identifies themselves as First Nations. First Nations are part of the community of indigenous Canadians who were living in the area of what is now Canada prior to European arrival. There are 634 different First Nations bands that are recognized across Canada, from coast to coast.

As soon as sin entered into the human heart, God came after Adam and Eve calling out, “Where are you?” The Lord knew exactly where they were and what they had done. He knew that sin had broken the perfect relationship that He had enjoyed with the highest of His creation. And He came after them anyway. It has always been God’s plan to reach people from every nation, tribe and language group with the good news of His unbounding love for them. So the words of Joshua in Joshua 4:23-24 should come as no surprise: “”The Lord your God did to the Jordan what he had done to the Red Sea when he dried it up before us until we had crossed over. He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful and so that you might always fear the Lord your God.” In leading the people into the promised land, God had proven to everyone just how powerful He is. He continues to do so with every life transformed by His love and grace.

These have been words from the heart.
