Words from the Heart for Thursday February 14th, 2019
“Because they have not followed me wholeheartedly,” … The Lord’s anger burned against Israel and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation of those who had done evil in his sight was gone.
Numbers 32:11-13 (NIV)
It’s not easy to surprise a former Prime Minister, but that’s exactly what the Right Honourable Joe Clark’s family did back in 2014 when they announced that their gift to him for his 75th birthday would be a new piece of music commissioned for the National Arts Centre Orchestra. His wife, Maureen McTeer said at the time “I had been thinking for some time of a way to mark my husband’s 75th birthday. I knew that Joe would most appreciate a gift that could be shared by people everywhere. He believes wholeheartedly in Canada and its place in the world, and music, of course, is a very powerful ambassador for our country.”
Today is Valentine’s Day. It is all about the heart, and I’m not just speaking about the shape of the chocolate box. We pledge to the one we love just how much we love them and can’t wait to spend time with them on this special day. If this is the case in our relationship with another human being, it is much more so when it comes to our relationship with our Creator God. Numbers 32:11-13 says “Because they have not followed me wholeheartedly,’ … The Lord’s anger burned against Israel and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation of those who had done evil in his sight was gone.” Our relationship with God is always based on love. He loved us enough to send the Lord Jesus to take upon Himself the punishment we deserve for our sins. He calls us to love Him with our whole heart. Anything else is idolatry. Is there anything in your heart that steals your love for the Lord Jesus? If so, tear down that idol and make Him Lord of all.
These have been words from the heart.
