Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
1 Peter 4:8 (NIV)
Above all, Love
According to the Trafalgar Travel Company website, “One reason Canadians love Canada is because of their spectacular backyard. Spanning more than half of the Northern Hemisphere, Canada is made up of thousands of lakes, 48 national parks, wide open plains, lush forests and impressive mountain ranges like the Rocky Mountains. Not only is the landscape varied but so is the wildlife. Native Canadian animals include polar bears, Canada lynxes, moose, wolverines (yes that is a real animal), Beluga whales and beavers.”

We used to sing a song that said, “They will know we are Christians by our love.” It is based on the frequent call in the Bible for God’s people to mirror to the world the love of Jesus: in our relationships with other followers of those within the family of God and those who are not. The apostle Peter certainly understood how fallible Christians are. Even after Jesus warned him that he would deny the Lord three times in one evening, Peter did so. He had then experienced the love of Jesus that restored him to his ministry and his apostleship. So, it shouldn’t surprise us that he writes this in 1 Peter 4:8: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” When we love others with the love of Jesus, we set them free from their sin just as Peter was set free. Do you know someone who needs to experience the grace of Jesus through your love for them? Love them deeply and you will discover, as Peter writes, that your love, in Jesus’ name, will cover a multitude of sins, and will restore them to their place in God’s family.
These have been words from the heart.
