“Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David’s descendants and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?”
John 7:42 NIV

As of last April, Canadians can give cash or Aeroplan points to help bring Ukrainians fleeing the war with Russia to safety in Canada. Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said the goal is to pay for flights to bring at least 10,000 Ukrainians and their families approved for travel to Canada. These would be on top of targeted chartered flights to bring Ukrainians to Canada announced by the federal government previously. More than 54,000 Ukrainians have already been approved to come to Canada for three years.

One of my best friends is Jewish and lives in Israel. He reminded me once that one of the great heartbreaks of being Jewish is that you can trace your family back generations but many of his children’s friends have no grandparents, because of the Holocaust. The Jewish people remember the past generations – the Bible proves that with its many lists of genealogies. So, it shouldn’t surprise us that Matthew would trace Jesus’ ancestry back to Abraham and Luke back to Adam. John, meanwhile, simply says this, in John 7:42: “Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David’s descendants and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?” God planned Jesus’ arrival before time existed. Over the centuries, He slowly worked His plan, revealing it through prophets, priests and kings. There wasn’t one bit of chance in anything to do with Jesus’ arrival. And there isn’t any chance in your life either. God has it planned perfectly and you are here with a purpose. Your joy and peace are in discovering why God has placed you where He has for just such a time as this.
These have been words from the heart.
