Words from the Heart for Thursday December 31st, 2020
He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.
Revelation 22:20-21 (NIV)
This past October, the Canadian government announced its plans to welcome 401,000 immigrants to Canada in 2021, tying the highest level of immigration in the country’s history. The only time Canada welcomed over 400,000 immigrants in a year was in 1913, when it admitted 401,000 newcomers. It has never come close to this figure again. The 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan aims to welcome about 60 per cent of all immigrants under economic class programs, including through Express Entry and the Provincial Nominee Program.
In these days of pandemic, we long to be able to connect with those we love the most. We have friends and family in the US that we haven’t been able to see since COVID-19 closed down the border. When the time comes for a visit, we will look forward to their coming with excitement. If that is the case with other people we love, it is infinitely more exciting when it comes to the return of Jesus. His followers have been waiting with expectation for two millennia. The longing for the return of the Lord was just as deep for the first generation of believers. As 2020 concludes – many will be glad to see this year pass into the history books – it is fitting that we focus on the last verses of the Bible. Revelation 22:20-21 says, “He who testifies to these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.” The apostle John, the youngest of Jesus’ disciples and the one who lived the longest, longed for the return of Christ. Every one of His followers still does. Even so, come Lord Jesus.
These have been words from the heart.
