He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.

Sure Foundation

Canada was founded in 1867 because of geopolitical concerns within the British colonies in North America and global concerns in the mid-19th century. England’s Canadian experiment wasn’t exactly smooth sailing. Colonists worried that the United States might attack again, and faced economic problems due to quick territorial expansion. English- and French-speaking colonists struggled to get along, and England itself found that governing and financing its far-flung colonies was expensive and burdensome. Indigenous Canadians were not consulted or invited to participate in the confederation.

As we wait for Christmas Day and the celebration of Jesus’ birth, we get a slight sense of what God’s people had waited for over the centuries leading up to the arrival of the Messiah. There was a deep longing in the hearts of the people of Israel for the Promised One. Those like King David and Isaiah the prophet, who were given special insight into the role the Messiah would play and all He would provide, had an even deeper longing. In Isaiah 33:6 we read, “He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.” He is speaking directly to us. Jesus is indeed the sure foundation for our times. In a world that is being rocked by all sorts of physical, geopolitical and spiritual events, Jesus is the sure foundation. He provides the rich store of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge for which our generation is longing. Isaiah’s promise may be ancient, but never before has the need for Jesus been greater than it is right now. May you experience Jesus’ rich store of salvation, wisdom and knowledge.

These have been words from the heart.
