Words from the Heart for Thursday December 13th, 2018

Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

Luke 1:38 (NRSV)

According to Your Word

So much was at stake as Mary gave her answer to the angel. She gave her “yes” to the Lord. That is just a three-letter word, but with that word “yes” the Lord would work the miracle that would set in motion the current chapter of the eternal plan of God. Your “yes” matters to the Lord, too. Will you give it to Him today?

I was googling some uniquely Canadian phrases and came across a couple I had never heard in my life – and except for 8 years living in Florida, I had not heard of some of them. For example, do you know what a Canadian tuxedo is? Apparently it’s a blue denim jacket when worn with a pair of blue jeans. A booter is when you get a shoe full of water. And I hadn’t heard the term champagne birthday – mine was May 29, 1984 – my 29th birthday.

When our children were young we taught them that obedience isn’t obedience unless it is immediate. They are now teaching this to their children. When mama says to do something, it had better be done, and done now! This is not only the best way for a family to function, but is at the heart of the principles of the Kingdom of Heaven. It is most clearly seen in the words of Mary, the mother of Jesus, as she responds to the news that angel has brought that she would bear the Messiah, and He would call her mother. Luke 1:38 says “Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.” There was no hesitation by Mary to the news that she would be the mother of Jesus the Messiah. It was immediate acceptance of God’s will for her life. Oh, that we would be just as quick to obey the command of God on our lives. God still speaks to us, through His word. Are you being immediate in your obedience?

These have been words from the heart.
