For the Lord Most High is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth.

Psalm 47:2 (NKJV)

King Over All the Earth

Throughout the months of this year we have read many words describing our Creator God. Yet, no words can truly tell how wonderful He is. This psalm says the Lord Most High is awesome. Sometimes that word is used to describe things that are not really that important. But, awesome does fit our God! List five words you would use to describe God. Then, use them in several sentences of praise.

There is some dispute about who was the first King to claim any right to Canada. Most sources giving the year as 1497, when John Cabot made landfall somewhere on the North American coast (likely either modern-day Newfoundland or Nova Scotia), and claimed the land for England on behalf of King Henry VII. However, some sources instead put this date at 1534 when the word “Canada” was first used to refer to the French colony of Canada, which was founded in the name of King Francis I.

The people of Israel were proud of their relationship with their God. They knew that He was different than the silent gods of the nations around them. The prophet Elijah certainly proved that the God of Israel was the One true God, when he battled against the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. In spite of hours of pleading, dancing, and blood letting, Baal remained silent. On the other hand, when Elijah called on the God of Israel, immediately He spoke through the fire He sent from heaven. While the God of Israel once again proved His power, His plan was to be the God of not just Israel, but of the whole world. King David understood this and wrote in Psalm 47:2, “For the Lord Most High is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth.” While God may have introduced Himself through the people of Israel, it was God’s ultimate plan to redeem the whole world. After all, He created this entire world, and every human being who has ever lived. Through Jesus, men and women from every nation and language will glorify His name.
