Words from the Heart for Thursday August 8th, 2019
“And this is the sign from the Lord to prove that he will do as he promised: I will cause the sun’s shadow to move ten steps backward on the sundial of Ahaz!” So the shadow on the sundial moved backward ten steps.
Isaiah 38:7-8 (NLT)
On Christmas Eve, Noreen Lucas was sleeping on the couch in her son’s home. She had pneumonia and stayed in while the rest of the family was out. Lucas woke up suddenly because the family dog, Rex, had dragged her off the couch. The house was on fire. “I was comatose, but when Rex dragged me I knew something was wrong, and I wouldn’t be alive without that dog,” Lucas told CTV News. The town of Vonda, Saskatchewan, has given the family a rental property to stay in, and the community is offering them support. It is a true Christmas miracle.
Hezekiah was not well. This faithful man of God had a terminal illness and wasn’t expected to live long. The prophet Isaiah told him to get his things in order – his time wouldn’t be long on this earth. But Hezekiah wasn’t ready to face death, so he beseeches the Lord for some more time, reminding the Lord of all the good he had done in His name. God hears Hezekiah’s prayer and promises that this man of God would live for 15 more years. Isaiah 38:7-8 says this: “’And this is the sign from the Lord to prove that he will do as he promised: I will cause the sun’s shadow to move ten steps backward on the sundial of Ahaz!’ So the shadow on the sundial moved backward ten steps.” This is an interesting story. God, who created the laws of nature, is able to set them aside in order to heal Hezekiah. This is called a miracle. He still performs them today – He still heals, and extends life, always for His glory. What miracle do you need the Lord Jesus to perform in your life? Ask Him to do so.
