Do any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the skies themselves send down showers? No, it is you, Lord our God. Therefore our hope is in you, for you are the one who does all this.

Jeremiah 14:22 (NIV)

Our Hope is in You

Humans can spend a fortune searching for a little hope. And people like Cynthia Burt take advantage of that search. Edmonton police allege there is nothing magic about Burt, who is accused of bilking 10 people of money with a promise that a special crystal would improve their lives. Investigators say complainants were defrauded of more than $72,500, with the highest individual loss totalling $20,250. Burt advertised “Need Help in Love? Do You Want Him Back?” She has been charged with ten counts of fraud.

The idols that most people in our world worship are powerless. Whether it is a statue made out of human hands, or the materialism, entertainment and sex that are the main idols of the developed world: these idols are powerless and always leave empty those who worship at their altars. As created gods, they are no more useful to affect our lives than anything else the human mind can imagine. But the One true God, who revealed Himself in the person of Jesus Christ, has all power. Jeremiah 14:22 says this: “Do any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the skies themselves send down showers? No, it is you, Lord our God. Therefore our hope is in you, for you are the one who does all this.” It makes perfect sense that we put our trust in the God who has proven His power and authority by His control over the elements of nature. If He is able to keep the world functioning, He is certainly able to keep our lives in order. If you are feeling out of control these days, ask the Living God, Jesus Christ, to step into the driver’s seat of your life.
