Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.”

John 14:23-24 (NIV)

Keep My Word

National Chief Perry Bellegarde once said “Canada was formed with the shared promises of peace, friendship and mutual respect with First Nations in the presence of all of creation. These promises, for as long as the sun shines, the rivers flow and the grass grows, are to be in effect for peoples now and for those yet unborn. The challenges now faced by First Nations peoples and by all of humanity with the declining state of our natural world were not meant to be. Think of how enriched Canada and the world can be as Canada fulfills on its original promises of peace and sharing with First Nations peoples.”

A marriage will not last if one person in the marriage doesn’t take seriously the vows made at their wedding. Both husband and wife must be totally committed to the promises made in the covenant of marriage if the marriage is going to flourish. In our relationship to Jesus Christ we know one thing – He will consistently be faithful to His commitment to us. He can do nothing else – He is by nature totally faithful. I wish it was just as true of us, and Jesus calls us to that standard. In John 14:23-24 we read: “Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.’” Just as in a marriage, Jesus tells us that the proof of our love for Him is walking in obedience. Are you?

These have been words from the heart.
