Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

The end of the Second World War in 1945 found Canada a major military and economic power, but not one rushing headlong towards greater international responsibility. While some Canadians believed the country could no longer afford the quasi-isolationist foreign policy of the 1930s, the post-war Liberal government of Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King continued to move cautiously on the world stage. In a January 1947 speech, Secretary of State for External Affairs Louis St. Laurent acknowledged that to protect its interests Canada must entertain external defense commitments.

Many Christians are afraid to share their faith. They don’t have the confidence to answer questions that might come their way. So, they keep their mouths closed, even when the Lord opens up an obvious opportunity for them to speak about what Jesus means to them and the impact He has had on their lives. The Lord knew that we would find sharing our faith difficult. He could have told us to just not do this, but He didn’t. It is critical we share our faith. But as usual, He does give us an amazing promise of His provision. Jesus says this in Mark 13:11: “Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.” While this promise is specifically for those who have been arrested for sharing the Gospel, and many in our world have been in our generation, it is for all who will step out in faith and start to share with others the goodness of God in our lives. Take a step of faith today – God will give you the words.
These have been words from the heart.
