But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

Given to You

There is no “gift tax” in Canada.  Any resident of Canada who receives a gift or inheritance of any amount, except from an employer, or as a tip or gratuity due to their employment, will not have to include this in their income. If the gift is capital property, or is a gift from someone in debt to Canada Revenue Agency, the person who has given the gift will be deemed to have sold the capital property at fair market value and will have to pay tax on any resulting capital gain.

Even more than getting gifts, I love giving them. People who are givers love to take time to carefully plan the gift they are going to give, and make it as personal as possible. This isn’t surprising, because it is exactly how our Creator God gives to each of us. He has given us so much and will continue to bless those who seek Him by faith. This is the promise given by Jesus Himself in Matthew 6:33: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” The greatest gift that God has given us is the gift of eternal life. He offers that gift to all who place their faith and trust in Jesus Christ. One of the greatest promises is that when we seek and trust Him by faith, we are blessed with so much more. Those who seek first the things of this world will end up with nothing. They work their entire lives and can take none of that with them into eternity. Those who trust Christ receive eternal life and Jesus’ blessings in this life.

These have been words from the heart.
