Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Philippians 4:6 NIV

Present Your Requests

Throughout the 1870s, the First Nations people of Canada’s prairies often made requests of the Canadian government for reserves. While the Dakota at Oak River and Birdtail were establishing themselves on their reserves, those at Turtle Mountain and Oak Lake carried on with efforts to secure lands. The request for Oak Lake was made in November 1873 and Santee Sioux Chief H’damani made his request for lands in the Turtle Mountains in January 1874, both through the International Boundary Commission.

One of the blessings of a Scripture-based song is that it helps us memorize Bible passages. One of the first Bible verses I remember memorizing as a child was a verse that was in a song we sang in a children’s choir. And having it put to memory has helped me so many times over the years as I have faced challenging times in my life. The verse was Philippians 4:6: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” This is one of the greatest promises in God’s Word. We all deal with anxiety too often. Whenever we do, we have been invited to present our requests to God. At the worst of times, let God know. When life is the darkest, God is waiting to hear from you. He calls you to lift your eyes from whatever is causing the anxiety, putting them first onto something that will cause you to be thankful, and then onto the Lord who is waiting for you. As you do, God will step into the midst of your anxiety and give you, His peace.

These have been words from the heart.
