Words from the Heart for Sunday September 6th, 2020
For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet…
Psalm 8:5-6 (NKJV)
A Little Lower Than The Angels
Charles Sangster may not be a household name, but he is known to be the best of Canada’s pre-Confederation poets. His poetry painted a beautiful picture of Canada in those days, with a strong Christian component. In spite of the untimely death of his wife, a daughter and his closest friend, all over a brief period of time, his poetry was filled with joy, love, art, nature and his strong faith in Christ. One of works speaks of the influence of angels in everyday life.
There is a philosophy that permeates our society that human beings have no greater value than any other member of the animal kingdom. Over a period of billions of years, it teaches, we have evolved to the top of the food chain. But human life has no special meaning and no special place in the world. The Bible teaches something entirely different. Listen to what the Psalmist says about human beings in Psalm 8:5-6: “For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honour. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet…” There is no clearer definition of the uniqueness of human beings. We are created a little lower than the angels, those beings that are so pure they can spend eternity in the presence of God Himself. We have been crowned with glory and honour. Men and women, even fallen, sinful men and women, are so special in God’s sight. You are profoundly special to your Creator. You are not a product of chance. You were lovingly created.
These have been words from the heart.
