Words from the Heart for Sunday September 27th, 2020
My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
John 14:2 (NIV)
What is believed to be the largest home in Canada is a 65,000 square foot mansion. You won’t find it in Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver. In fact, it’s a long way off the beaten path. You will find it in Haileybury, 140 kilometres north of North Bay Ontario. The house sits on 40 acres along the shores of Lake Temiskaming and it’s about the same size as Bill Gates’s property near Seattle. The problem is, it was never completed and it now sits, decaying, a very expensive fixer-upper.
I will never forget seeing a painting on a wall in the head office of a Christian ministry in Cambodia. It showed a vision of heaven and their fulfillment of Jesus promise in John 14:2: “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?” I don’t know what you think of when you think of the Father’s house, but it is likely very Canadian looking. In Cambodia, it looked like a Cambodian palace – similar to what you will see on the Cambodian flag. We really have no idea what the Father’s house looks like – that really isn’t important. What is important is that Jesus has given us a wonderful promise. He tells us that what He is doing now is preparing a place for each of us who love Him. His disciples would forget this during those long days between His death and resurrection. But it gave them great hope as He was taken up into Glory following His resurrection. It gives us great hope as well, knowing that He is at work preparing a place for all who love Him.
These have been words from the heart.
