Words from the Heart for Sunday September 26th, 2021
From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Ephesians 4:16 (NIV)
Builds Itself Up
The early history of Europeans in Canada is multi-national. The Vikings from Scandinavia arrived in what is now Newfoundland around the year 1000. Five centuries later, John Cabot landed on the same island. He was Italian, but his travels were funded by England. About the same time both the Spanish and Portuguese empires claimed parts of the land. Early on, France held the lead in the amount of territory it held, with the English building up their North American empire as well.
Have you ever wondered at just how amazing the human body is? Our Creator designed it to start out as a single cell, developing in the womb for 9 months until it is ready to enter the world. After birth, it continues to develop naturally, moment by moment, day by day. It builds itself up – babies become toddlers, who before you know it are off to school. The Bible teaches that the body of Christ, the Church, is designed to build itself up as well. Listen to what the apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 4:16: “From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” Jesus is the head of His body, the Church. Held together by His Holy Spirit and the truth of the Word of God, it naturally develops in love for the Lord, for each other and for those who are not yet followers of Jesus, as everyone puts into practice their spiritual gifts. How are you growing in love?
These have been words from the heart.
