Words from the Heart for Sunday September 22nd, 2019

Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.

Daniel 10:12 (NIV)

You Were Heard

Around 1.7 million people in Canada live with an untreated, disabling hearing loss. Disabling hearing loss in Canada costs around $25 billion each year. This is around $11,800 per person with an untreated disabling hearing loss. 7% of all adults live with a disabling hearing loss. More than two out of three are not treated.

We all long for inner peace. But before we can experience it, we have to understand why we lack it. God calls us to be perfect as He is perfect. This is impossible. I’m reminded of the man who prayed “Lord, thank you that so far today I have not sinned. But in a minute I’m going to get out of the bed and face a new day, and I’m going to really need your help.” We smile at this, but we all recognize that each of us falls short of God’s standard of perfection. It is this sin that steals our peace. How do we find it then? Listen to what God says to Daniel in Daniel 10:12: “Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.’” God draws close to those who humble themselves before Him. This is the first step to peace. The final step is seeking the forgiveness and redemption that is offered by God because of Jesus’ death and resurrection. God will come to dwell in the heart of anyone who in humility invites Jesus to be Saviour and Lord.

These have been words from the heart.
