I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
Psalm 32:8 NIV
God Will Teach You
After 1870 numerous non-Anglophone immigrants arrived from Europe, including Germans, Ukrainians, Scandinavians and many others. Large numbers headed to the attractive free farms in the Prairie Provinces. Education was a central factor in their assimilation into Canadian culture and society. English-language usage in playground games often proved an effective device and was used systematically. The elementary schools especially in rural Alberta played a central role in the acculturation of the immigrants and their children.

When I was a child, we used to sing a Sunday School song that warned us to be careful about where our little feet, hands and eyes went, because the Father up above was looking down in love. It was years later that I realized that this was wise Biblical counsel. Psalm 32:8 says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” God loves us and wants us to live a life that honours him and represents His kingdom well. He will instruct us in how we can do that and offers us counsel on how to live like Jesus. At the same time, He has His eyes on us, watching over us and caring for us. For those who don’t know Jesus by faith, hearing that God is watching over us can be a frightening thing. There is coming a day of judgment. But for those of us who have had our sins removed and the righteousness of Christ imbued in us, knowing that God has His eye on us brings great comfort. The Father up above really is looking down in love, offering to instruct us in the way we should go.
These have been words from the heart.
