She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.

She is Clothed With Strength and Dignity

An online article on the Citizens for Public Justice website, says “Poverty costs Canadians our health, our dignity, and our dollars. Poverty also costs the well-being and enjoyment of the years that people do have. Poverty makes healthy years more difficult and stressful. For example, the cycle of poverty and state surveillance of people on welfare create a climate of stress that attacks their dignity.”

The Bible honours women. The New Testament, written in a day when women were second class citizens, lists many women who were followers of Jesus and who played a vital part in supporting His ministry. It is very likely that His first disciple was a woman named Mary from the Galilean fishing village of Magdala. King Solomon honoured women as he wrote the book of Proverbs. He looked at the godly women in his day and writes this in Proverbs 31:25: “She is clothed with strength and dignity, she can laugh at the days to come.” In our day, many people fear the days to come. The future too often looks bleak, and without the assurance that there is a Creator who holds this world in His hands, there is little hope. But the woman Solomon describes here is a model for all who follow Jesus. Knowing that He holds this world, and our lives, in His care, we walk in His strength and dignity. We look to the future with assurance, knowing that no matter what comes our way in this life, God will be there, and this life is only a blip compared to the eternity that is beyond. As you trust Jesus today, you are clothed with His strength and dignity.

These have been words from the heart.
