Words from the Heart for Sunday October 25th, 2020
If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
Psalm 139:9-10 (NIV)
Because of its often-frigid winters, Winnipeg is not always considered at the top of places to visit. But the plantware.com website includes Winnipeg in its list of 17 top places to visit in Canada, and for good reason. The online articles says, “Surrounded by fields, many of which glow yellow in summer with canola or sunflowers, and set along the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, the city is surprisingly scenic.” In the city, don’t miss The Forks and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
Unlike today, when we can hop on a plane and in a matter of hours be on the other side of the planet, the world was a much smaller place in the days of King David. The mode of travel that would take a person farthest and fastest was a boat, and for those in the Middle East, the known world was centred on the Mediterranean Sea. As King David pondered the omnipresence of God in Psalm 139, he wrote this in verses 9-10: “If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” David knew that whether he was in his own bed, waking up in a comfortable and familiar place, or found himself at the end of the known world, God was there. It is no different today. God is building His Church all around the globe. The Christian Church has never grown so quickly as it has in our time. People in every nation are meeting Him through faith in Jesus Christ. No matter where you are, God is there with you.
These have been words from the heart.
