Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

Tomorrow

Futurists are always trying to predict what the world will look like in the future. For example, in 2030, the population of Canada will reach 41.1 million, an increase of 12.2% from 2017. Natural change will decline over this time causing population growth to slow, subsequently, net migration will become more important accounting for around three-quarters of population growth by 2030. The population will age rapidly up to 2030 due to a low and falling birth rate combined with growth in older age groups.

If the pandemic has taught us anything, it is to be flexible. How many of us have had to postpone plans or cancel them altogether? This is particularly irritating for those who like to have every minute of every day all planned out. We discover that we are not, in fact, the captain of our fate. The apostle James got it completely correct when he says, in James 4:14: “Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” There are times when we are convinced that the universe revolves around us. But soon enough we discover that we are not the centre of the universe. We are wise to recognize this early on and invite Jesus to be the captain of our fate and the master of our soul. As we walk daily in faith, putting Jesus at the centre of our lives, we have the assurance that God loves us more than life itself. He does know what tomorrow holds, and His plans for our lives can never be thwarted. Trust Him for all your tomorrows.
