Words from the Heart for Sunday October 14th, 2018
The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.
Lamentations 3:22-23 (NLT)
The Faithful Love of the Lord
The God who created the morning also brings fresh mercies all over again every day to us. His faithful love never ends. Whatever your yesterday was like, begin this new day with confidence that His faithfulness awaits you. Someone you meet today will need this announcement that you have discovered to be true.
If I asked you which generation of Canadians are most trustful of banks, you probably wouldn’t pick millennials. But a February 2017 credit card survey tells us that 77% of millennials prefer to have all their financial products and credit cards with one bank. That number tumbles to 60% for gen-Xers and just 55% for baby boomers. So it’s the most tech-savvy generation — millennials — who are also the most likely to remain faithful to their stodgy old banks and settle for their credit cards.
The word of God is brutally honest. It never tries to cover up the reality of human life. It records the joy and sadness, the pain and healing, the loss and victory that mark daily living. The book of Lamentations records Jeremiah’s laments for the destruction of Jerusalem. It lists Israel’s sin and the misery that was being experienced by Israel as her beloved city is destroyed. Had God once and for all turned His back on His people? In the midst of all of this we read one of the great truths and promises in God’s Word. Lamentations 2:22-23 says, “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” This is a wonderful truth, and we who love the Lord cling to this promise, this truth about His nature, particularly when we are facing difficult challenges. No matter how often we let him down, and allow sin into our lives, when we turn from our sin in repentance, we can be sure of God’s faithful love for us. How have you experienced His faithfulness in your life lately?
These have been words from the heart.
