Words from the Heart for Sunday October 11th, 2020
Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.”
John 14:23 (NIV)
We Will Come to Them
One of the biggest impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic was the unprecedented closure of the US-Canada border. However, there were some exemptions to the closing of the border. Those who can come to the Canadian border and be allowed access include Canadian citizens, permanent residents and their families. Also included are Spouses and common-law partners; dependent children; grandchildren; parent or step-parent, guardians or tutors, and some temporary foreign workers. All who are allowed into Canada must quarantine.
The first year our oldest son and his wife were married, they came and lived with us. While this isn’t common these days, in some parts of the world it is very common. That year gave them time to get settled as a couple and save for a downpayment on a house. We love having family visit and never tire of having loved ones around. If that is the case with human families, the promise of Jesus in John 14:23 is even more so. “Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.’” This is one of the many unique aspects of the Christian faith. Human religions have gods who are removed from them. So much of man-made religion is trying to convince their god or gods, which are not real gods at all, to step in and do something. The God of the Bible is so different than this. His desire is to be with His people. That’s why Jesus stepped into our world. And when we trust Him as Saviour and Lord, He promises to never leave us or forsake us.
These have been words from the heart.
