Words from the Heart for Sunday October 10th, 2021
Then you will know that I am the Lord; those who hope in me will not be disappointed.
Isaiah 49:23b (NIV)
Canada has lots to celebrate about our past. But there have been disappointments. Take the Ross Rifle, for example, arguably the biggest failure in Canadian history. The Conservative government of Robert Borden selected the Canadian-made hunting rifle over the British Lee-Enfield for use in the First World War. The Ross Rifle overheated if fired too much and jammed if exposed to mud, like, say, from a trench, and the bayonet would fall off if you ran. It endangered thousands of troops who relied on it in battle.
There is a lot in life that can disappoint us. That is particularly so when we hear that someone we respect and love has let us down. That has happened far too often lately within Christian circles. This is why it is critical that we who love the Lord keep our eyes on Him alone. He will never disappoint. This is what Isaiah 49:23b says “Then you will know that I am the Lord; those who hope in me will not be disappointed.” God has just made a promise that He would restore His people. Following a time of exile, the nations would come and bow down before His people. Through this, the people will see the power and authority of their God over all the nations. That all came to pass with the arrival of Jesus the Messiah. You can stand on this same promise. The God who saved you will never disappoint you. You can trust Him in every way and in every circumstance. No matter what you are facing right now, reach out in faith to Jesus Christ, asking Him to manifest His presence and power. He promises to come through for you.
These have been words from the heart.
