Words from the Heart for Sunday November 7th, 2021
This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Jeremiah 6:16 (NIV)
The Bruce Trail is a hiking trail in southern Ontario, from the Niagara River to the tip of Tobermory. The main trail is more than 890 km long. The trail mostly follows the edge of the Niagara Escarpment, one of the thirteen UNESCO World Biosphere Reserves in Canada. The land the trail traverses is owned by the Government of Ontario, local municipalities, local conservation authorities, private landowners, and the Bruce Trail Conservancy. The Bruce Trail is the oldest and longest marked hiking trail in Canada.
God called the prophet Jeremiah to proclaim a message to his generation. It is the same message that He calls us to proclaim to our generation, and it is found in Jeremiah 6:16: “This is what the Lord says: ‘Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.'” We live in quickly changing times. In fact, for many the speed of change is overwhelming. The past is discarded as archaic and hurtful. As usual, the Kingdom of God calls us to something completely different. God’s plan for the redemption of the world is an ancient path. Knowing that men and women would need a redeemer because of sin, He began to develop that path before He even created the world. This is the ancient path that He called Jeremiah to ask for. He does the same in our day. The Holy Spirit is working in the lives of those who have not yet trusted Jesus Christ, calling them to His way, His path, in order to find the peace that He alone can provide.
These have been words from the heart.
