Words from the Heart for Sunday November 28th, 2021

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Matthew 7:13-14 (NIV)

Small Gate

According to the Everyday Traveler online blog: “The dull, grey Palace wasn’t very impressive, but when I looked around I saw an amazing wrought iron gate I was immediately attracted to. Upon getting closer, sure enough what had caught my attention was the spectacular “Canada Gate.” Turns out the “Canada Gate” is part of a series of gates near Buckingham Palace. The gates were a gift from Canada, celebrating its contribution to the then British Empire. The metalwork includes the crests of Canadian provinces.”

We live in a day when most people want to believe that there is no ultimate truth. What you believe is truth for you and what I believe is truth for me. It all sounds so nice – you live your life and I’ll live mine and as long as you don’t try to force me to live my life your way, we’ll get along fine. Until Jesus comes along. Jesus taught that He is the way, the truth and the life, and that no one comes to the Father except through Him. How narrow minded this is, the world will say. Jesus would agree with that. Look at what He teaches in Matthew 7:13-14: “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” There are not many paths to eternal life. There is only one – Jesus- and if that sounds narrow, so it is. The broad path leads to destruction – the narrow Jesus-way path leads to eternal life. That’s the truth.
