Words from the Heart for Sunday November 14th, 2021
Wear the full armor of God. Wear God’s armor so that you can fight against the devil’s evil tricks.
Ephesians 6:11 (ICB)
Armour of God
A black tank-like armoured truck cruises a city street, prompting stunned pedestrians to whip out their smartphones to provide proof of what they’ve seen. What they’ve seen is the Toronto built Conquest Knight XV. It is a rare beast. There are only 17 in the world, sold to the likes of Middle Eastern royalty and a basketball star. The vehicle starts at $629,000, but most go for several hundred thousand dollars more. It weighs twice as a much as a Hummer and it can stop a bullet from an AK-47.
We often think of military hardware as being used for attacking the enemy, and much of it is. But over millennia of warfare, defensive and protective hardware has also been perfected. It saddens us when we hear of those in the military being injured during conflict, but the reality is that members of the military are better protected now than at any other time in history. If armour is necessary in the physical conflict, it is also needed in spiritual warfare as well – and the Bible does tell us that we are constantly involved in a spiritual battle. So Paul warns us in Ephesians 6:11: “Wear the full armour of God. Wear God’s armour so that you can fight against the devil’s evil tricks.” We are constantly under attack from the Enemy of all that is holy and righteous. It’s why Jesus instructs us to pray “deliver us from evil.” In order to stand strong, God has provided spiritual armour for the battle – the Gospel, faith, His word, salvation, righteousness, prayer. As we put these into practice, we find that we are standing stronger and stronger in Jesus, and walking regularly in victory.
These have been words from the heart.
