Words from the Heart for Sunday May 5th, 2019

Praise be to the Lord, the God of our ancestors, who has put it into the king’s heart to bring honor to the house of the Lord in Jerusalem in this way and who has extended his good favor to me before the king and his advisers and all the king’s powerful officials. Because the hand of the Lord my God was on me, I took courage and gathered leaders from Israel to go up with me.

Ezra 7:27-28 (NIV)

The Hand of the Lord

In a Canadian first, back in 2014, a team led by Dr. Steven McCabe, Director of the Hand and Upper Extremity Transplant Program and the Hand Program at Toronto Western Hospital, successfully completed the country’s first transplant of the upper limb. During a procedure lasting approximately 14 hours, a team of 18 surgeons attached the forearm and hand matched from a donor to a patient who had been evaluated as a suitable candidate.

God has a plan for our lives that will bring blessing to us and glory to Him. And in that plan, He works in the lives of those around us. We don’t often see that except in hindsight, as we look back to discover how the Lord has providentially worked out His plan. Ezra describes this beautifully in Ezra 7:27-28: “Praise be to the Lord, the God of our ancestors, who has put it into the king’s heart to bring honor to the house of the Lord in Jerusalem in this way and who has extended his good favor to me before the king and his advisers and all the king’s powerful officials. Because the hand of the Lord my God was on me, I took courage and gathered leaders from Israel to go up with me.” In this case, God worked in the heart of a pagan king to provide what was necessary for the rebuilding of the Jerusalem Temple. Ezra sensed the hand of God’s blessing on his life and calling and the Lord worked out the plan beautifully. He is working out His plan perfectly for your life as well. How do you sense the hand of the Lord on you?

These have been words from the heart.
