…to be made new in the attitude of your minds.

Ephesians 4:23 NIV

Listen to Words from the Heart

On February 23, 2021, Canada’s Prime Minister and the US President announced, “The Roadmap for a Renewed U.S.-Canada Partnership announced today establishes a blueprint for an ambitious and whole-of-government effort against the COVID-19 pandemic and in support of our mutual prosperity. It creates a partnership on climate change, advances global health security, bolsters cooperation on defense and security, and it reaffirms a shared commitment to diversity, equity, and justice. Bound by history and geography, the partnership between the United States and Canada endures because we invest in each other’s success.”

I remember as a young man, when in youthful vigour I spoke too quickly, my teacher saying, “check your attitude.” It was good counsel. Throughout our lives we too quickly respond with an attitude that is far from Christ-like. We respond out of emotion, rather than doing so after thoughtful reflection. Thankfully, we have a God who wants to renew our minds and check our attitudes. In Ephesians 4:23, Paul the apostle writes, “…to be made new in the attitude of your minds.” In the context here, Paul is speaking about how God transforms us completely. He calls us to put off our old selves, which is corrupted by its deceitful desires, and then tells us that God will change our attitudes. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like myself much when emotions get in the way, and I say things I regret. What a blessing to know that God wants to change our attitude. He wants to help us check our emotions and start thinking clearly. It starts in our minds. If you need an attitude check, ask the Lord to transform your mind. He will!

These have been words from the heart.
