Words from the Heart for Sunday May 30th, 2021
And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
Genesis 1:6-8 (NIV)
And It Was So
Although Canada achieved Confederation on July 1, 1867, many people believe that Canada didn’t truly become a nation until April 9, 1917, at the Battle of Vimy Ridge. That day thousands of Canadian soldiers from across the nation poured from the trenches and fought uphill to capture the heavily fortified – and previously impregnable – German positions along a seven-kilometre ridge. Vimy Ridge was taken. Brigadier-General A.E. Ross, British commander of the Canadian forces, famously said, “In those few minutes I witnessed the birth of a nation.”
People are very creative. Just look around to see all that human beings have brought into being over the past number of millennia and particularly over the past century or so. If you could travel back in time to a normal office in the 1980s for example, you wouldn’t recognize it. And that was just four decades back. We humans are great at design and development. But we can’t create something out of nothing. Only God can do that. I love how the Bible describes that power of God’s words. Genesis 1:6-8 tells us: “And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.” Sometimes it’s the little phrases in the Bible that speak so loudly. It is the case here – “and it was so.” This is the meaning of the word Amen – let it be so. When God speaks, it is always AMEN! How do you need God to speak AMEN into your life today?
These have been words from the heart.
