Words from the Heart for Sunday May 23rd, 2021
He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those who are with young.
Isaiah 40:11 (NKJV)
Feed His Flock
Forage is a key ingredient in feeding sheep, according to the Alberta Lamb Producers. It is important to know the nutritional content of the feed you are providing to your animals as poor quality forage limits the ability of the animal to ingest sufficient nutrients. The forage takes up a large amount of the space in the rumen (first stomach) and when the quality is poor, the animal cannot consume enough to meet its nutrient requirements.
A shepherd bears the weighty responsibility of caring for his sheep. He must find them the food that will keep them healthy and protect them from all that would cause them harm. This was true in Biblical days and it is still true today. The Bible tells us that we are all like sheep. We try to come across as strong and independent but the reality is that we are needy. In the quiet moments of life, those moments when are honest with ourselves, we recognize how much we need others. And when pressure comes, and the future seems uncertain, we realize how much we need someone greater. Fortunately, God understands this, and is always ready to provide what we need. Isaiah 40:11 says “He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those who are with young.” These are some of the most tender words in the Bible. There is a sense here of God’s deep love and provision for us. He promises to meet our physical needs, as well as our spiritual need for love and compassion. Reach out to God through faith in Jesus Christ and you will experience His care.
