There is nothing like jumping into a pool, lake or river on a scorching hot and humid summer day. The relief is instant. It refreshes us immediately, and keep us comfortable the whole time we are in the water. There is a refreshment for the soul available as well. We often deal with the spiritual heat of temptation and sin and long for soul refreshment. Listen to what Psalm 19:7 says: “The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.” It happens all the time. I read God’s word when my heart and soul are suffering and I’m feeling down or overwhelmed, and immediately the Lord takes His Word and I sense a refreshment. There is something wonderful that happens in our souls when God speaks directly through the Bible into our deepest longings and needs. They may be ancient words, but the human condition hasn’t changed a bit. Neither has God’s word. As our Creator speaks into our hearts, words of comfort, direction, consolation, and sometimes loving correction, we are overwhelmed by the fact that He cares enough to do so.
These have been words from the heart.
