Words from the Heart for Sunday March 1st, 2020

But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.

1 Corinthians 1:27-29 (NIV)

No One May Boast

Canada is the second-largest country in the world in terms of land area – second only to Russia. It features vast swathes of uninterrupted landscapes, with tundra in the north and grassy prairies to the south. Canada also has more lakes than any country in the world; The Great Lakes, featuring some of the largest, are located here. There is also a portion of the Rocky Mountains. There is much for Canadians to boast about – we just don’t tend to do so very much.

Frank Sinatra made a fortune on his song “My Way.” It became the crooner’s theme song. There is a reason. We are taught to stand on our own, battle our way through life, toughen up and stand on our own two feet. That, and all sorts of other clichés. The self-made man is honoured. The wise, the strong and the powerful rule the world, and are emulated. What a contrast to the Kingdom of God. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 1:27-29: “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.” I have seen this so often over the years. God chooses the ones the world would leave behind to accomplish things that have eternal impact and eternal value. He only asks that we are available and willing. He has chosen you. Be willing to be used for His glory.

These have been words from the heart.
