Words from the Heart for Sunday March 15th, 2020
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV)
Honour God With Your Body
Have you ever considered donating your body to science? One of the most common ways that Canadians donate their bodies to science is by becoming a registered organ donor. Over the past 10 years, the number of organ donors in Canada has gone up by 44%. One organ donor can save up to 8 lives, and improve the quality of up to 75 people’s lives. For instance, a kidney transplant won’t just save a person’s life, but will also dramatically change the quality of life.
When we become a follower of Jesus, Jesus transforms us. He removes our sin and gives us a new nature and new passions. We no longer want to give in to temptation and live to please our sinful desires, but want instead to live to please the Lord. While at its heart this a spiritual transformation, it impacts every part of our lives. God created us as physical beings, and so we are called to offer our physical bodies to Him as part of our total commitment to Jesus as our Saviour and Lord. The apostle Paul puts it this way in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20: “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” One of the mysteries of the Christian faith is that our Creator takes up residence in us as the Holy Spirit comes into our lives when we put our faith in Jesus Christ. How can you present your body to Him today?
These have been words from the heart.
