But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.

The sixth season of the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup was announced Saturday, April 16, 2022, by Ron MacLean during the first intermission of Hockey Night in Canada. The Lloydminster Female U13 Blazers were named champions, becoming the first all-female team to win the honour. The Blazers won for their Good Deed of holding a ‘try para-hockey’ event at their local arena and petitioning city council to ensure that the two new arenas being built include accessible features for players, parents and fans. $100,000 was donated to their charity of choice, Inclusion Lloydminster.

The apostle James is the half-brother of Jesus. They have different fathers, of course, but share the same mother, Mary. Early in Jesus’ ministry His family refused to believe that Jesus’ was the Messiah. John 7:5 tells us that even his brothers did not believe Him. Somewhere along the line, Jesus’ brother James recognized Jesus for who He is, and was included among the disciples. He would write the epistle that bears his name, and in it he speaks about the mark of a true follower of Jesus – a life marked by acts of compassion and grace. In James 2:18 he writes, “But someone will say, ‘You have faith; I have deeds.’ Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.” As there are today, there were many in James’ day that claimed to be followers of Jesus, but their lives were not marked by acts that mirrored those of Jesus. The lives of those of us who genuinely love Jesus will look like Him as He poured Himself into others and eventually gave His life up for them. Our faith is proved genuine when we do too.

These have been words from the heart.
