Words from the Heart for Sunday June 2nd, 2019

Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways. He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.

Psalm 25:8-10 (NIV)

Loving and Faithful

Last year the Globe and Mail asked Canadians what they love about our country. Olympic soccer striker Christine Sinclair said, “We’ve been known for a long time for being happy to compete. ‘Oh, we made it to the Olympics.’ ‘Oh, we qualified for this tournament.’ The one thing about the Vancouver Olympics I remember is an attitude shift, that we’re not just there to compete – we’re there to win. It just carried on in London and Sochi.”

Jesus’ followers called him Rabbi. As with all rabbis at the time, they sat at His feet, or walked with Him as He taught them. While He is far more than just a rabbi, He was, and is, a great teacher. God always has been. David had noticed that and in Psalm 25:8-10 he writes: “Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways. He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.” God loves to teach. He instructs sinners in His ways, and if they are willing to be taught, He will draw them to Himself. He teaches the righteous in His ways. The Bible is God’s textbook. The wise understand this and study it to learn from the great teacher God. He wants us to become the people He desires us to be. And so He teaches us constantly. We are called to be teachable, reading God’s word and looking daily to see what He is teaching us from the experiences He gives us. What has the Lord been teaching you lately?

These have been words from the heart.
