Words from the Heart for Sunday June 28th, 2020
…to another [is given] faith by the same Spirit…
1 Corinthians 12:9a (NIV)
As the COVID-19 pandemic was beginning to spread around the world, an international poll was taken, asking people if they believed their government had a plan in place to deal with the virus. Attitudes toward it—and toward measures aimed at limiting its spread—differed from country to country. Some 56 per cent of Canadians believed their government had a plan that would work to control the outbreak, while less than half of Americans and Brits—42 per cent and 40 per cent respectively—felt the same way.
The Christian life is a walk of faith. We come into a relationship with Jesus Christ through faith and we walk in victory day by day, by faith. We are called to trust Jesus in everything that we do. As we do, our faith increases and our walk with the Lord becomes deeper and more stable. But there are those within the Body of Christ who are given a greater gift of faith. In 1 Corinthians 12:9a we read “…to another [is given] faith by the same Spirit…” Over the years I have appreciated those who have this gift. They come alongside those who are going through challenging times, encouraging them to stand strong in Christ and reminding them that the Lord is with them. Those with the gift of faith also speak into decisions that the local fellowship of believers is considering. They remind us that God is able to meet all of our needs and call us to step out in faith when we might be apprehensive. And in challenging times, they remind us to not walk in fear but in faith. If this is your gift, speak faith into the body of Christ.
These have been words from the heart.
