Words from the Heart for Sunday June 27th, 2021
Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.
1 Peter 3:8 (NIV)
Be Like Minded
Canada and Italy are often like-minded on key global and regional issues and work closely together in a range of multilateral institutions, including the United Nations, the G7, G20 and NATO. Canada’s large and dynamic Italo-Canadian community is engaged in all aspects—cultural, social, economic and political—of bilateral relations. Important business, science and technology delegations exchanged by Canada and Italy have given new momentum to innovative commercial opportunities and partnerships. Cultural and academic exchanges and people-to-people ties are strong.
In case you didn’t notice, the local church is far from perfect. Unfortunately, it is filled with people like us. We come with our not-yet-perfected personalities, the experiences that have made us who we are, and our prejudices and opinions. This has always been the case – the original disciples where a rag-tag group of fishermen and political activists, with a tax collector thrown in. The Bible records some of the clashes between the original 12 – I’m sure there were many others. Peter, the early leader of this team was aware that God’s will is for His people to all be on the same page. So he wrote this in 1 Peter 3:8: “Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.” The Church to whom Peter was writing was a church that was facing severe persecution. It was critical for the believers to be like-minded, in order to stand together against the attacks and to represent Jesus well. It is just as important today as we bear up under the pandemic. As you meet with other believers, put into practice what Peter commands here – be like minded and loving towards others in your local fellowship.
These have been words from the heart.
